Jim is a business-minded commercial lawyer with over 18 years of experience in various legal roles working on large infrastructure projects, primarily in the energy sector. Jim is skilled in navigating legal challenges and providing practical advice that helps businesses successfully undertake complex projects. Jim has supported a wide range of commercial transactions that relate to the development, construction, financing and operations of energy and infrastructure projects, including design build agreements, joint venture arrangements, procurement and services contracts, partnerships with community stakeholders, power purchase contracts, project finance agreements and operation and maintenance contracts. In addition, he has advised on a wide range of M&A deals regarding the acquisition and sale of infrastructure projects and cross-border transactions.
Clients value Jim’s negotiation skills and detail-driven approach to risk management. He is adept at finding effective, efficient and practical solutions to complex commercial issues, while driving value and furthering business objectives.
Jim joined Caravel from NextEra Energy, one of the world’s largest energy companies. Before that, Jim was Head of Legal (Canada) at SunEdison where he led a team of legal professionals in connection with SunEdison’s solar energy projects.
Jim is Chair of the Board of Directors for Osteoporosis Canada, a national charity that serves people affected by musculoskeletal and bone disease.
