Celebrating the Inspiring Women of Caravel Law this International Women’s Day

At Caravel Law, we’re honored to work alongside a team of exceptional women who enrich our firm with their diverse skills, experiences, and perspectives. In celebration of International Women’s Day, we had the privilege of speaking with Caravel’s very own Vinoja Wichweswaran, Lindsay Baird, and Chelsea Bianchin to learn more about their professional journeys, personal passions, and what this day means to them.

Meet the Women Shaping Caravel Law

Vinoja Wichweswaran

Vinoja Wichweswaran, Of Counsel, Caravel Law: Vinoja’s legal expertise is deeply rooted in corporate-commercial law, but her current focus on AI incorporation strategies showcases her forward-thinking approach. She’s not just a lawyer; she’s a “power user” of AI, driven by a desire to understand how businesses can optimally leverage technology. “I want to know how you can safely and effectively create business efficiencies through AI,” she passionately states.

This curiosity extends beyond technology; Vinoja thrives on the varied and unique challenges that she gets to navigate for her clients. “Caravel Law allows me to have a diverse practice. I really like working with business clients to solve real problems.”

Beyond her legal work, Vinoja’s life is a testament to her passion for learning. She immerses herself in a variety of hobbies, from dance to winter sports, and has even launched her own skincare business, born from personal experience.

This entrepreneurial spirit is grounded in a philosophy of continuous improvement. “I think wanting everything to be perfect on day one is unrealistic—success and learning is an iterative process.” Her advice to other women is a reflection of this: “Start small, think big.” For Vinoja, International Women’s Day is a platform to celebrate women’s accomplishments and draw inspiration from those who dare to take risks and contribute to society in unique ways.

Lindsay Baird

Lindsay Baird, Director of Client Success, Caravel Law: Lindsay’s role at Caravel Law is pivotal in shaping client experiences and driving business growth, particularly in British Columbia. She appreciates the firm’s innovative spirit and commitment to rewriting industry standards. “After a decade in professional services, it’s refreshing to see Caravel constantly shaking things up and redefining how we support lawyers and clients in this industry.”

Lindsay’s passions extend beyond law. She is an avid runner and recently took on the challenge of a triathlon, an experience that highlighted the need for greater female representation in competitive sports.

Her entrepreneurial drive is also evident in her consulting business, Atlantic Edge, where she helps professional services firms with marketing and business development training. Lindsay’s personal experiences, such as moving to Vancouver and building a new network, have instilled in her a deep respect for resilience and adaptability.

She is also a passionate supporter of “Too Young to Wed,” advocating against child marriage and for the rights of young girls. Lindsay finds inspiration in the courage and authenticity of figures like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. For Lindsay, International Women’s Day is a time for both celebration and reflection, acknowledging the ongoing need for advocacy and change.

Chelsea Bianchin

Chelsea Bianchin, Of Counsel, Caravel Law: Chelsea brings a wealth of expertise in commercial real estate and estate planning. She values the stimulating work and the relationships she builds with clients at Caravel Law. It is the “amazing clients” and “interesting work” that Chelsea loves most.

Family is central to Chelsea’s life, and she finds immense joy in raising her children and creating lasting memories through travel. Her decision to leave a traditional law firm and begin practicing in association with Caravel Law was a daunting change, but one that fed Chelsea’s entrepreneurial spirit.

“I am incredibly proud of leaving a conventional law firm after more than a decade and starting my own practice.” This transition has reinforced her belief in the importance of stepping outside one’s comfort zone. Chelsea acknowledges that balancing career and personal life is an ongoing journey, and she credits her family for helping her find equilibrium.

For her, International Women’s Day is a moment to recognize the diverse skills and achievements of women, finding inspiration in the everyday acts of strength and support she witnesses around her.

Reflections on Achievements and Inspiration

These remarkable women exemplify the blend of professional excellence and personal passion. Their insights highlight the importance of continuous learning, resilience, and finding inspiration in everyday moments. They demonstrate that success is a journey marked by growth, adaptation, and the courage to pursue one’s passions.

Celebrating Women’s Contributions

International Women’s Day is a powerful reminder of the incredible contributions women make across all facets of life. At Caravel Law, we are immensely proud to have Vinoja, Lindsay, and Chelsea, alongside many other amazing women, as part of our team. We celebrate their achievements and the countless women who continue to shape a more equitable and inspiring world.
