Earlier this month, our VP of Legal Innovation, Monica Goyal, took the stage at Legal Geek 2025, one of the industry’s leading global conferences on legal technology and innovation.
As both a speaker and attendee, Monica joined legal professionals, technologists, and entrepreneurs from around the world to explore how the legal sector is evolving.
The energy at this year’s conference was clear: we’ve moved beyond “Should we use AI?” The new mindset is: We are building AI.
Here are three key takeaways from the sessions and discussions that stood out most to our team:
1. Legal Teams Are Building Bespoke AI Tools
Both law firms and in-house legal departments are no longer waiting for generic solutions—they’re investing in tailored AI tools to suit their unique workflows. From contract review to client intake, teams are exploring custom use cases.
2. Venture Capital Is Pouring into Legal Tech
As shared by Thomson Reuters at the event, venture capital investment in legal tech is at a high. The market sees the potential—and the funding is there. But capital alone doesn’t guarantee progress if adoption hurdles persist.
3. Tech Adoption Challenges Persist
Despite the rapidly evolving legal tech landscape and the many benefits often touted — from increased efficiency to improved accuracy — not everyone is buying in just yet. Many legal teams continue to face familiar adoption hurdles. Change management remains a major obstacle, as does lawyer hesitancy, particularly around trust, control, and the perceived complexity of AI tools. Even when interest is high, integrating new technologies into existing workflows and legacy systems can be a significant barrier. As a result, implementation lags behind innovation, slowing the broader adoption of legal AI across the industry.
Our Takeaway: The Conversation Is Evolving
For us, one of the most valuable aspects of Legal Geek 2025 was hearing how others are actively tackling these barriers. The legal tech is here—but building internal alignment, offering the right training, and earning trust from legal professionals is where the real transformation begins.
As early adopters of legal technology, we’re proud to be part of a community that’s leading this shift—and to have Monica Goyal representing Caravel Law at the forefront of these important conversations.
