John is a practical, business-minded advisor with over a decade in-house advising senior leadership across the full spectrum of a company’s legal needs. With a graduate background in computer science, he engages substantively with technical teams and translates complex legal and regulatory concepts into clear, practical guidance.
John acts as a registered patent agent and a registered trademark agent, drafting and negotiating commercial, SaaS, technology licensing, professional services, and master services agreements. He manages global patent and trademark portfolios, including drafting, prosecution, oppositions, and enforcement, and leads global trade compliance operations covering export controls, sanctions, anti-bribery, and tariff impacts, including the filing of voluntary disclosures. He also advises on complex development and co-development agreements, including IP ownership and risk allocation, on Canadian privacy compliance, and on the response to cybersecurity incidents.
Alongside this work, John supports M&A due diligence, debt refinancing, and corporate restructuring, and builds compliance policies, training programs, and processes for cross-functional business teams across sales, supply chain, engineering and finance.
Clients value John’s resourcefulness and technical fluency, matched by the calm, level-headed judgment he brings when the stakes and the time pressure are both high.
